Activities

UNDF carries out various activities to achieve its goals. these range from policy making to community involvement in decision making process.

The objectives thus are:

Knowledge and communication
Civil Society participation is dependant on adequate knowledge and ability to communicate effectively and efficiently. As the development processes evolve and as NBI takes root in cooperative engagements for development, there is need to know the problems being addressed, establish apparent capacity needs and exchange information, services and skills. To this effect, UNDF has established a resource centre.

Research and dissemination
This activity aims at developing pro-poor research, analysis and advocacy on the developments within the basin and generating an effective knowledge base for both CSOs and policy makers. The focus is on practical, applied research of direct relevance to improved resource management and governance under NBI projects. This activity will seek to create useful linkages and collaboration with other agencies undertaking research in the basin. (See NBD DFID Programme)

Capacity building
This activity will lead to enhanced capacity for civil society to engage in and influence development processes, equipping them in the long term to use the knowledge resources and processes of engagement established under the preceding activities to influence the long-term outcomes of the development projects in the Nile basin. This activity will also focus on capacity to monitor and evaluate the socio-economic impact of development projects across the Nile Basin. It will aim at developing a coherent framework and approach to CSO monitoring and evaluating of its own impact on the development projects and processes.
