INTRODUCTION

The Uganda Nile Discourse forum was established in 2003 to support Civil Society participation in the developments on the Nile basin.

Uganda Nile Discourse Forum (UNDF) is a network of Civil Society Organization and interest groups committed to influence and engage in the development projects and processes in the Nile Basin.

Office establishment

In May 2006, the UNDF established its office at the Uganda Wildlife Society (UWS) and it is fully operational. UNDF however moved to new offices located on Plot 1521,Mawanda Road, Kamwokya P.O.Box 7422,Kampala.

OBJECTIVES OF UNDF

The broad objective of Uganda Nile Discourse Forum is to promote dialogue on sustainable and equitable development and peace and mutual understanding on development issues of the Nile Basin.

The specific objectives of the Organization are;

>> To support the process of dialogue on the developments of the Nile Basin.

>> To provide and facilitate fora for exchange of information concerning developments and activities within the Nile Basin.

>> To establish and maintain an information center that will facilitate the sustainable utilization and management of the Nile basin resources.

>> To support research on issues on the Nile Basin that is relevant to Uganda.

>> To support other initiatives in the Nile Basin that aim at the promotion of peace, conflict resolution and sustainable use and equitable distribution of the Nile Basin resources and which take into account consideration environmental

In order to achieve the above objectives, UNDF was established to provide legitimacy and accountability to the civil society.

Vision

Empower CSOs and communities participation in decision making processes for sustainable development of the Nile Basin.

Planned Actions

>>Pro-poor audit of development projects in the Nile Basin within Uganda
>>Micro- studies on Peace and conflict over transboundary resources
>>Documentation of best practices on conservation and poverty in the Nile basin
>>Establish research network
>>Training CSOs in Natural Resources management and Governance, IWRM and Resource Mobilization
>>Training in policy influencing and advocacy
